Top Vehicle Maintenance Tips & Tricks

On average people are keeping their vehicles longer today than in the past.  With longer vehicle life cycles comes more maintenance.  Here are some excellent tips to help you keep your car in great shape and running well for years to come!

1)  Read your car’s manual.  With automotive technology evolving at such a rapid pace, things are changing quickly.  Not only will this introduce you to all the technology and features of your vehicle, but it will also go over the maintenance schedule for your vehicle.

2)  Replace air filters on schedule.  Air filters (Intake and cabin) should be changed at least every 12 months.  If you live in a dusty climate like Arizona, you might want to consider more frequent changes.  Dirty filters can affect the performance and fuel economy of your vehicle, or the air quality in the cabin.

3). Replace your windshield wipers.  Damaged wiper blades leave your windshield covered in streaks which can impair visibility and lead to dangerous driving situations.  Rubberized plastics dry out and become brittle very quickly in the Arizona climate so be sure to install new wiper blades before the rainy season.  Also be sure to keep your reservoir full!

4)  Routine inspection.  Pop that hood, take a look… Check your fluid levels and look for wear and tear on belts, pipes, wiring etc.

5)  Be mindful of tire pressure.  All sorts of things can affect your tire pressure.  Having the correct pressure can prevent dangerous safety issues like blow outs, flats, and traction loss.  Keep your family safe by regularly checking your tire pressure and checking for nails, screws, or other punctures.
6). Rotate your tires.  Rotating your tires every 5-10k miles will help you get longer life out of your tires, saving you the expense of untimely replacements.

7). Keep your vehicle clean.  Your car is exposed to all sorts of weather, road debris, and other environmental hazards.  These can all damage your clear coat, which leads to paint fade and even rust!  Also make sure to have an undercarriage cleaning once or twice per year.  This can help keep suspension and drivetrain components free of dirt build up that can damage bushings, bearings, and other mechanical components.  Also, this will help keep your vehicle looking great, which will keep the resale value up!

8). Change your fuel filter.  Fuel filter replacements are often overlooked or neglected.  If your car is on, your car’s fuel filter is on duty!  A poorly maintained fuel system can cost you at the pump or the repair shop!

9)  Much like the fuel filter, the power steering fluid is under constant use when driving.  Be sure to follow your vehicle manufacturers recommended maintenance schedule.

10)  Monitor electrical components.  Check your lights, horn, etc. regularly.  Additionally, with more and more technology in modern cars there is a greater reliance on electrical systems.  Don’t forget to change your car battery regularly, especially in hot/dry climates.

If you incorporate these car care tips into your maintenance efforts, you will save money and your vehicle will hold its value better.  If you need help with any of these items, or any vehicle maintenance we have a full service department available for any of your needs.  Swing on by!
