Best car for Uber job

In recent history ridesharing services like Lyft and Uber have become hugely popular.  With more and more people turning to driving for ridesharing companies as their primary source of income, we thought we could share some valuable information to help you know which vehicle options best match your budget and lifestyle.

A car is usually one of the bigger purchases we make so it’s important to know how much you expect to earn.  According to Glassdoor.com rideshare drivers average $14-$16 an hour.  A used vehicle between $7500-$15,000 gives you the best chance of paying for your car with your ride share earnings.  Rideshare vehicle standards are regional, so check Uber or Lyft’s requirements before you buy.

You will need a 4 door vehicle, so sedans, crossovers, SUVs and some hatchbacks will all meet your needs.  To keep your driving expenses low you should aim for a vehicle that has the best fuel economy possible.  The Toyota Prius is extremely popular with Uber drivers because they are affordable in the pre-owned market, they get 45+ mpg consistently, and are very reliable; also due to the smaller wheel size tires are fairly affordable.  With Hybrids becoming so widely proliferated, the pre-owned market is starting to have lots of great choices available.  For example a 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid can be bought for between $12,000-14,000.  The Kia Optima Hybrid is another good option as well.  But you don’t have to get a hybrid to be profitable with ridesharing.  There are plenty of normal cars that fit the role well also.  For example, the Toyota Corolla and Camry are great non-hybrid options.  Toyota is known for having low cost of ownership due to their reliability.  A good offering from Nissan would be the Sentra, Altima or Rogue.  From Volkswagen, the Jetta and from Ford, the Focus.  We cant finish the list without mentioning the Honda Fit and Accord or the Acura ILX all of which are also affordable, reliable cars with low maintenance costs and long life expectancies.

SUVs should not be ignored if your personal life requires a bit more cargo space or maybe some off road driving.  Fuel economy technology has come a long way in the last decade and so SUV’s aren’t always the gas guzzlers they were once known as.  Consider an SUV with a 4 cylinder engine like the Kia Sorento, or take a look at Crossovers as well.  A Crossover is a mix between a car and an SUV.  Usually, they are a bit smaller and drive more like a car while still offering extra cargo space and ground clearance.

In conclusion, there are dozens of fantastic vehicle options for the rideshare driver.  In fact, we have a section of our website dedicated to vehicles that are priced under $15,000, which is a great place to start.  But we won’t stop there.  We are more than happy to help you find best possible selection for your needs.  Either give us a call, or stop by so we can help you find the perfect car for your ridesharing career!
