You see it on the news every day; some unfortunate soul got their identity stolen. However, you know that reviewing your credit information is important, especially when making big purchase decisions. So how can you ensure the safety of your personal information? Continue reading to find out! 

In actuality, it’s safer to check your credit score online (or get approved online) from a reputable source than through the mail. The credit reporting bureau states that you may be made more vulnerable to identity theft if your credit record or loan approval is mailed to you because it could get mis-delivered, or intercepted by a thief.

Additionally, there are a number of reputable companies who can provide automatic credit checks and loan approvals (like ours).  Unfortunately, identity thieves have set up fake websites with names that are similar to these reputable website to lure in unsuspecting citizens and trick them into providing their private information. However, these are pretty common to spot, just be observant.

To postively determine if business is trustworthy, you need to do some research to verify the legitimacy of the company and its offer. To do this, conduct a simple web search on the company and confirm that the credit approval is valid and lawful.

In addition to a web search, you should check for certain security measures. For instance, secure sites use "https" rather than "http" in the address line of your browser window when you input your own personal information, like your credit card information or SSN.

Secure websites also have lock icons along the bottom of your browser window or on the upper left corner, showing security. Legitimate companies (like ours) will also provide you with a privacy policy that details how your information will be used and what recourse you may have if you feel you've been treated unfairly.

If any of these security signs are missing, DO NOT ENTER YOUR INFORMATION. For the most part, just use your gut and common sense. Only put your information on sites you feel comfortable with.
